A half-dozen people were taken to hospital Wednesday after emergency crews responded to the scene of a crash involving around 20 vehicles on Highway 2 north of Grande Prairie near Emerson Trail Wednesday.
RCMP, emergency medical services and fire services responded to the collision that blocked traffic on Highway 2 for several hours before it was re-opened in all directions just after 12:30 p.m, an RCMP news release said Wednesday afternoon.
The release said “numerous passengers” were treated on scene while six people were taken to hospital with serious injuries by ground ambulance. A 16-year-old girl was first llsted in critical condition but her status was later updated to stable.
“Preliminary investigation has revealed that weather and road conditions were factors in this collision. At the time of the collision, there was thick, heavy fog which caused reduced visibility and icy roadways. Speed is also being investigated as a factor,” said Const. Candace Hrdlicka.
Police said no charges have been laid as they continue to investigate the pileup.
