According to a statement by Durham Regional Police Service (DRPS), officers responded to a call about a large gathering taking place at a home near Birchview Drive and Ormond Drive at around 7:00 p.m. on Saturday.
“After police arrived, they were advised that a six-year-old female was missing,” said DRPS. “Police started to search the property and located the female victim in the pool.”
“One of the officers dove into the pool and retrieved the child. Officers performed CPR until Durham Paramedics Services arrived. The young female was rushed to a local hospital where she unfortunately was pronounced.”
CTV News reported that the owner of the home was hosting a birthday party for her five-year-old daughter. A man who lives in the area told CP24 that a woman had asked neighbours to check their properties for a missing girl.
