Region of Waterloo Public Health reported 179 new COVID-19 cases on its dashboard Saturday afternoon.
This update includes both the COVID case numbers from December 31 and January 1.
106 new cases were reported today, with alterations made to previous counts.
This brings the new total up to 6,078 cases for the region since March.
The number of active cases has increased to 578 from 518 since Thursday.

5,326 resolved cases (88 per cent).
There have been 166 deaths in the region linked to the virus. The latest was confirmed on January 1.
33 cases are currently hospitalized (12 in ICU).
