Alberta reported an estimated 400 new cases of COVID-19 on Sunday.
Dr. Deena Hinshaw, Alberta’s chief medical officer of health, provided a brief preliminary update on Twitter where she announced an estimated 400 new cases after 8,100 laboratory tests were conducted. Hinshaw said fewer tests conducted on Friday resulted in fewer results being processed and reported on Saturday.
The province currently has a positivity rate of five per cent, the lowest reported since Oct. 31, which was at 4.16 per cent on more than 13,200 tests.
Hinshaw said hospitalizations and intensive care remain stable.
The City of Edmonton said on social media Saturday that law enforcement officers will be doing face covering compliance checks at local shopping centres and on public transit to help reduce the spread of COVID-19.
The province will not be fully updating its COVID-19 numbers online again until Monday. The estimates are meant to give a view of the COVID situation in the province during the holidays. Hinshaw is expected to provide another brief preliminary update on Twitter on Sunday.
