Public Health Ontario has reported 2,417 new cases of COVID-19 today.
The province is also reporting 50 deaths in its latest update, including 25 people who were residents at long-term care homes.
The deaths reported today include one person under 19, one person between 40 and 59 years old, 20 people between 60 and 79 years old, and 28 people over the age of 80.
Ontario reports 181 new COVID-related hospitalizations and 41 new admissions to intensive care.
The Jan. 24 update provided by the province’s public health agency also reported the following data:

24,153 active cases, which is down from 24,545 yesterday
1,436 people are currently hospitalized with COVID-19 in Ontario, down from 1,501 reported yesterday. The province’s report notes that on weekends, at least 10 per cent of Ontario hospitals do not report to the daily bed census, so the hospitalizations could be underreported.
There are 392 COVID patients in intensive care units (down from 395 yesterday) and 301 COVID patients on ventilators (up from 299 yesterday).
The province reported 48,947 tests were processed yesterday resulting in a 4.2 per cent positivity rate.
There is a backlog of 23,995 tests. To date, 9,308,991 tests have been completed.
Of the 2,417 cases reported today, 785 are from Toronto, 404 are from Peel, 215 are from York Region, and 51 are from Simcoe-Muskoka
There are 242 active outbreaks at long-term care homes, 161 at retirement homes and 101 at hospitals.
Of the cases reported today there are 318 people under 19 years old, 892 people between 20 and 39 years old, 707 people between 40 and 59 years old, 333 people between 60 and 79 years old, and 167 people over the age of 80.
Vaccine update for Jan. 24:
There were 4,427 doses of vaccines against COVID-19 administered on Jan. 23, down from 11,161 on Jan. 22.
As of 8 p.m. on Jan. 23, the province reports 280,573 doses of vaccine against COVID-19 have been administered.
There are 62,881 total vaccinations completed (both doses). The vaccines approved for use require two doses a few weeks apart.
Public Health Ontario has confirmed 255,002 cases of COVID-19 since the start of the pandemic, and reported 225,046 recoveries and 5,803 deaths, of which 3,400 were individuals living in long-term care homes.
