Sacha Baron Cohen stole the show at the 78th Golden Globe Awards on February 28, 2021. Not only did he win two of the most coveted awards, but he also managed to send out a powerful political message through his exceptional sense of humor.

However, the highlight of his speech, aside from the time he roasted Rudy Giuliani, was perhaps when he thanked his anonymous bodyguard for saving his life twice. As it turns out, the British actor was attacked by Trump supporters during a gun-rally and was almost on the verge of getting shot when his bodyguard emerged as his savior.

Who is Sacha Baron Cohen’s bodyguard?

While the identity of Sacha Baron Cohen’s was not disclosed by the actor, he made sure to express his sincere thanks to his lifesaver.

“To the field team who literally risked their lives. And most thanks of all to my bodyguard, who stopped me [from] getting shot twice. You know who you are, and you know I’m not allowed to say your name, but thank you,” he said.

In the mockumentary ‘Borat: Subsequent Moviefilm’ in 2020, Baron Cohen attempted to persuade people to vote against Donald Trump in the Presidential elections. During the shooting of the film, Sacha Baron Cohen as Borat attended a rally by Trump supporters where some were brandishing firearms since he later referred to the event as a ‘gun rally’. However, the crowd soon figured out that the actor was not a MAGA supporter but was there to mock them, as he spoke on the stage. Soon, the crowd turned on him and he had to flee the stage as fast as possible.

He soon learned from his bodyguard that there was one attendee at the rally who reached for his gun when Baron Cohen was speaking on stage. It was his bodyguard who bravely grabbed the hand of the person and saved the actor’s life in turn.

“You know, escaping from that gun rally – you know, I spoke to the security guard afterward and he just said, listen, a few seconds later and this could have ended very differently. If I hadn’t have had a security guard who luckily grabbed the hand of, you know, somebody who reached for his gun, who knows?” he told the DailyMail. In fact, it was dangerous and risky incidents like this that prompted Baron Cohen to officially retire from playing Borat.
