Winn-Dixie began administering COVID-19 vaccinations at stores all across Florida on Thursday.
According to Southern Grocers, Inc. the company that owns Winn-Dixie, the grocery chain was expected to receive 8,100 doses of the Moderna vaccine through the Federal Retail Pharmacy Program.
According to the governor’s office, this includes stores in five Central Florida Counties; Brevard, Lake, Marion, Sumter and Volusia Counties.
Appointments for vaccinations at Winn-Dixie locations can be made by clicking or taping here.
Irene, 79, and Cal Blenis, 86, went to Winn-Dixie Thursday morning to try and find out more about the COVID-19 vaccine but they were told appointments were booked for the day.
“I went online yesterday and couldn’t get through so they said it got booked right away and I went back today, I got the paperwork online and printed it out so we will keep doing it until we can get an appointment,” Irene Blenis said.
She said her husband worked at the Winn-Dixie in Leesburg for almost 20 years but had to stop because he has heart disease and diabetes.
She’s hoping they will get the vaccines soon.
