Yesterday’s news from the provincial government about COVID-19 was a welcome change of pace from the days prior with fewer cases, an elevated number of recoveries, and a corresponding decline in active cases. It was also, apparently, a one-off.
The Saskatchewan Health Authority reported 293 new cases of COVID-19 today for a total of 37,384 cases. There were also 223 recoveries for a total of 34,325. This leaves 2599 active cases in Saskatchewan. There are 188 people hospitalized due to the virus. The seven-day average of daily new cases is 284.
Also today, the SHA is reporting two new deaths in patients who tested positive for the virus. The first of these was in their 70s and was a resident of the Regina area. The second was a resident of the South East over the age of 80.
Today’s new cases are located in the Far North West (8), North West (24), North Central (8), North East (5), Saskatoon (74), Central West (15), Central East (22), Regina (87), South West (4), South Central (4) and South East (24) zones. There are also 18 more cases with pending residence information.
Nine of the 24 new cases in the South East today are in Estevan’s subzone, South East 4. Because there were no recoveries in the Estevan area, there are now 89 active cases of the virus in subzone South East 4. Overall, there are 297 active cases in the South East.
Yesterday, there were 3,573 COVID-19 tests processed in Saskatchewan. There were also 7956 doses of COVID-19 vaccine administered for a total of 315,405. According to the province, 56 percent of residents over the age of 50 have received their first dose.
