Ottawa police were involved in a major operation — with reports of a standoff — on Hochelaga Street on Sunday that ended just after midnight.

Numerous officers from multiple units responded to the emergency call at a housing complex on Hochelaga between Gulf Place and Bermuda Avenue. Police closed those intersections and asked people to avoid the area during the police operation, which began early Sunday afternoon.

Witnesses reported seeing heavily armed police, tactical units and K-9 units at the scene.

Police would not confirm reports the 911 call involved a man brandishing a firearm.

The operation is over ended and streets reopened, police said in a news release at 12:28 a.m. Monday.
