Ontario is reporting 411 new cases of COVID-19 on June 9, including fewer than 100 new cases in Toronto.

The province reported 469 cases on Tuesday, 525 Monday, 663 on Sunday, 744 cases on Saturday and 914 on Friday. The seven-day rolling average dropped to 657, down from 978 last Wednesday.

The Ministry of Health confirmed a single-day increase of 92 new infections in Toronto, the first time the city’s case count has fallen below 100 since mid-September – not including the period in February when a data migration led to under-reporting of daily case counts.

“Locally, there are 97 new cases in Toronto, 72 in Peel, 35 in Waterloo, 26 in York Region and 25 in Hamilton,” Health Minister Christine Elliott said on Twitter.

Ontario reported another 33 deaths in the past day, bringing the total death toll to 8,920. Of today’s deaths, two were long-term care home residents.

Labs in the province completed more than 30,400 new tests in the past day, making for a positivity rate of two per cent, which is down from 2.8 per cent this time last week. The last time that indicator was that low was in late February.

Total confirmed active COVID-19 cases in Ontario dropped to 6,824. There are now 571 patients in hospital, a decline of 50 in the past day, including 466 in intensive care units. Of those, 314 are breathing with the help of a ventilator.

As of 8 pm last night, the province had administered 10,445,119 doses of the COVID-19 vaccine, including 177,506 doses administered yesterday. To date, 73.5 per cent of adults have had one dose and 10.7 per cent are fully immunized.
