The charge follows an internal investigation by members of the Professional Standards Bureau that started in the spring.
The bureau investigates public complaints and conducts internal investigations as directed by the chief of police. The bureau ensures YRP members carry out their duties in compliance with the Ontario Police Services Act and the police service’s regulations and procedures.
Const. Jamil Saade, 30, of Markham, was charged with fraud under $5,000 for working as a realtor on YRP duty hours.
He is scheduled to make a court appearance in Newmarket on Aug. 3.
Saade has been a member of YRP since 2013 and had most recently being working in the Information Management Unit.
