Federal Election Day: Polls open in Nova Scotia for 44th federal election

It’s Federal Election Day, so what does that mean for you?

The polls are open in Nova Scotia for 12-hours, from 8:30 a.m. until 8:30 p.m.

You can catch the details on where you can cast your ballot on your voter information card. You can find your electoral district on Elections Canada’s website.

If you haven’t registered, you can still do so at your polling station on election day.

You’ll need to have your driver’s license on you or another government issued ID. Due to COVID restrictions, you’ll also need to grab your mask.

Meantime, a record number of mail-in ballots could be the deciding factor in who forms the next government in Canada.

More than 1.2 million voter kits were requested, though only two-thirds have made their way back to Elections Canada.

Spokesperson Rejean Gauthier says if you failed to mail it back, your vote can still be recorded.

“You can always bring it to your returning office or you can actually bring it to your polling station,” Gauthier says. “Remember only the one polling station, the one that is on your voter information card.”

Gauthier says they plan to count mail-in ballots on Tuesday, comparing voter lists to ensure no one voted twice.
