Coronavirus: Ontario reports nine COVID-19-related deaths, 228 people in intensive care

The province has released its latest report on COVID-19 for Monday, covering statistics from the past three days.

In that time, 1,068 cases were confirmed for a daily average of just 365. Currently, 5,828 cases are active while 321,082 people have recovered.

With 21,752 tests conducted, the positivity rate this weekend was 4.9 per cent.

In the South Zone, 102 people tested positive over the last three days, or 34 per day. 32 people contracted COVID in Lethbridge, as did 18 in Lethbridge County and 17 in Medicine Hat.

Active infections across the region rose by 13 since our last report.

Since Friday’s update, 17 Albertans died from COVID with five in the Central Zone, four in the North Zone, three each in the Calgary and Edmonton Zones, and two in the South Zone. To date, 3,188 people in the province have died as a result of the virus.

The deaths in the South Zone were for residents of North Lethbridge and the County of Newell.

Provincially, 519 patients are currently hospitalized including 100 who have been admitted to intensive care.
