Police: Man charged after TTC employee stabbed at Dupont Station

A 30-year-old man is accused of stabbing a TTC employee early Wednesday.

The attack occurred around 6 a.m. on a subway train near the Dupont station stop when a man confronted a 46-year-old employee and an altercation started.

“The TTC employee was on his way to work this morning and suffered two stab wounds to the back,” Toronto Police Insp. Michael Williams said Wednesday.

“His injuries are non-life threatening and should likely be discharged (from hospital) today,” he said. “Which is very good and positive to hear.”

Police said the on-duty TTC employee was travelling south on the University line. A man was being disruptive on the train, according to police, and when the TTC worker asked the man to stop the man “became aggressive, attacked, and stabbed the TTC employee.”

Williams said police gathered video of the attacker from TTC cameras and spoke to witnesses who were on the train and at the station.

The suspect — later identified by police as Murice Stephens, of Toronto — fled out to the street level.

He is charged with assault, assault causing bodily harm and weapons dangerous.

Shuttle buses were brought in since a portion of the subway line was shut down.
