A Prince George man has been charged with arson after setting a large stack of tires on fire Sunday morning.
Shortly after 7 a.m. on Sunday, Prince George RCMP received a report of a large stack of tires burning in the 600 block of Third Avenue, a statement issued by police on Wednesday said. When officers arrived, they discovered the burning tires were starting to set power lines in the area on fire.
Officers evacuated people from the area while the fire was extinguished.
Police reviewed security video footage from the area, and noted the suspect was wearing distinctive clothing, the RCMP statement said. Officers located the suspect a few blocks away later that morning and arrested him for arson.
Ulysses Nicholas, 25, appeared in court on Monday and was charged with one count of arson. Nicholas is known to police.
“The quick and efficient work of our frontline officers led to this man being arrested and held for court within hours of the fire being lit,” RCMP spokesperson Cpl. Jennifer Cooper said in a statement issued Wednesday.
