Man charged after three people stabbed ‘multiple times’ in North Saanich

Three people are in hospital in serious condition after each was stabbed multiple times during what police called a volatile situation Friday inside a North Saanich home.

Sidney-North Saanich RCMP were alerted by a 911 call saying multiple people were injured by a person who was still inside the residence in the 10000 block of Derrick Road in North Saanich.

Police forcibly entered the home and discovered three people who had been stabbed multiple times, the RCMP said Saturday.

The man they believe to be responsible was at the scene and was arrested without incident, police said. “Responding officers relied on their training and de-escalation skills to take this very agitated and violent individual into custody.

“I am grateful that all first responders acted in a professional manner to bring this very volatile situation to a safe end,” said Cpl. Andres Sanchez, spokesman for Sidney-North Saanich RCMP.

RCMP carried out emergency first aid on the victims until the scene was determined to be safe enough for B.C. Ambulance paramedics to enter.

Injuries to all three victims were serious enough that they were taken to hospital. They are expected to survive their injuries.

All three were in serious but stable condition as of Saturday afternoon, police said.

There is no danger to the public and at this stage of the investigation, it is believed that the man arrested is known to the victims and that this was an isolated incident, police said.

The man who was arrested at the scene remains in police custody.

Derrick Road is in the Deep Cove area of North Saanich. The 10000 block consists of larger single-family, half-acre properties to the west and a five-acre property with a house on the east side of the road. The area is largely wooded and properties are assessed at $1-million-plus.
