An officer is in hospital after attempting to stop a stolen vehicle on Sunday, Sept. 25.
According to a release from the Stormont, Dundas and Glengarry (SD&G) Detachment of the Ontario Provincial Police (OPP), just before 9 a.m., an OPP officer attempted a traffic stop on a suspected stolen pickup truck eastbound on Highway 401 at the off-ramp Lancaster exit.
OPP says the vehicle rammed the police cruiser, forcing the officer’s car to exit the roadway and roll over into a culvert.
The officer was airlifted by Ornge to an Ottawa hospital with serious but not life-threatening injuries.
The investigation continues with assistance from the OPP Technical Collision Investigators (TCI), Reconstructionist, Forensic Identification Services (FIS) and OPP Aviation Services.
Highway 401 on and off ramps, eastbound at Lancaster, are both closed for investigation. There is also a partial lane closure, impacting the right lane eastbound on Highway 401 at Lancaster.
