A 61-year-old driver operating a school bus has been charged with impaired driving after being pulled over in Aurora, York Regional Police officers say.
In a statement released Thursday morning, investigators said the driver was pulled over as part of a RIDE spot check on Leslie Street near Wellington Street East at around 8:45 a.m. on Wednesday.
The statement said officers demanded the driver have a roadside screening for alcohol. Investigators said the man failed the test and was arrested.
After being taken to a police station, officers said the driver of the bus was charged with having more than 80 milligrams of alcohol in 100 millilitres of blood.
Investigators said the man, who lives in Newmarket but wasn’t identified, had his licence suspended and the school bus was impounded for a week.
Officers said no one else was on the bus at the time. It’s unclear if the driver picked up anyone earlier in the morning.
