A Sunday evening ended in disaster when a Calgary man fell from a moving limousine. Police and emergency services say they responded to the scene after reports of a seriously injured man and an incident involving a car came in. Police are currently investigating the Calgary limousine accident.
On Sunday, February 16 at roughly 7:30 p.m., police and paramedics arrived at the 1200 block of 11th Avenue SW in downtown Calgary where the accident occurred.
The man was taken to hospital and police say his injuries are life-threatening.
In a press release filed the morning after, Calgary Police said they believe that the man was injured after he “surfed” on the outside of the car, holding on and standing on the running board.
The running board is that little bit of a ledge on the side of a car that is no bigger than a ski. It juts out from bigger cars like limos and SUVs and helps passengers step into the vehicle.
Police say he rode outside the limo for a short distance along 11th Avenue SW until 12th Street where he finally fell off.
“Speed, alcohol and drugs on the part of the limousine driver are not believed to have been a factor in this incident,” their report reads.
Calgary has strict new driving laws about intoxicated driving but according to police, the driver seemed to be following the rules.
