A trip to the grocery store has turned into a tragedy in the District of Squamish.
Around 6 p.m. on February 28, the B.C. Ambulance Service contacted the local RCMP detachment to say that two pedestrians were struck in the parking lot at 1900 Garibaldi Way.
A female and a two-year-old child were rucked to hospital, where the toddler later died.
“We are at the beginning stages of putting together all the details to give an accurate picture of exactly what happened tonight” Sgt. Sascha Banks said in a news release. “Anyone who was there and witnessed the incident prior to the event, during the event, or after the collision are asked to come forward to the RCMP if they have not already done so.
“We are a tight-knit community and our thoughts are first and foremost with the family as well as those who were on scene, responded, and helped in any way they could.”
In the 2016 census Squamish had a population of 17,587. It’s nearly 60 kilometres south of Whistler and slightly more than 60 kilometres north of Vancouver.
