Coronavirus Canada update: How many positive cases?

One hundred and fifty-eight people in Canada have tested positive for COVID-19 or are presumed to be positive, and one death has been recorded.

Sophie Grégoire Trudeau, wife to Prime Minister Justin Trudeau, has tested positive for the new coronavirus.

In a statement Thursday night, Trudeau’s office said: “Following medical recommendations, Sophie Grégoire Trudeau was tested for COVID-19 today. The test came back positive.”

The statement says she will remain in isolation.

BRITISH COLUMBIA

Cases:

53 cases
1 recorded death
18 males, 19 females, 9 unknown
16 cases are related to travel to Iran or contact with individuals returning/visiting from Iran
8 cases were “community cases,” people who have not travelled outside of the province
5 cases are related to travel to China or contact with individuals returning/visiting from China
3 cases related to recent travel to Egypt
2 cases stem from passengers who were on the Princess Diamond cruise ship
1 case is a Seattle resident who was visiting family in B.C.’s Fraser Health region
1 case related to travel to Hong Kong and India
1 case related to recent travel in Italy
Tests: 2,008 individuals (2,803 samples) (as of March 6, 2020)
