A “dangerous” and long-duration heat wave is building across the West this weekend through much of next week.
Tomorrow daytime highs will swelter in the southwest with highs up to 120 degrees for Phoenix and 117 for Las Vegas.
This is the start of a massive heat wave that is bringing sweltering heat to the west coast this weekend.
This heat will move into our region tomorrow with potentially record breaking heat for the Treasure Valley both Sunday and Monday.
Make sure your air conditioning is up and running and make sure to check on your loved ones, neighbors and elderly folk to make sure they are staying hydrated and cool.
Daytime highs Sunday are expected at 102 for Boise and up to 105 degrees for some areas of the Treasure Valley, spurring an Excessive Heat Warning.
High pressure building out of the southwest will bring a strong southwest flow that will warm us each day through Monday.
Our strong southwest flow, due to the upper air circulation on our high pressure system building north will import hot and dry air into our region, bringing possible triple digit heat Sunday through Wednesday of this week,
An Excessive Heat Warning goes into effect on Sunday at noon, through Tuesday evening at 9am with dangerously hot conditions with temperatures up to 105 degrees for portions of the Treasure Valley.
If you are looking to escape this heat, the mountains will see highs in the low to mid 90s through this period.
We will see some monsoonal moisture move into our region on this southwesterly flow on Monday, bringing a slight change of isolated thunderstorms for the West Central Mountains and Eastern Oregon.
