Public health officials announced 36 new cases on Sunday as the province’s active caseload continued to fall.

Manitoba’s total caseload since the pandemic began in early March now sits at 697 after 66 cases were reported over the weekend. Two cases were taken off the province’s total on Sunday, including one that was found in an out-of-province resident and another identified case that turned out to not be one.

The province’s active caseload, which peaked at 246 on Friday, is now down at 205 after 40 recoveries were announced on Sunday and 94 total over the weekend. A total of 483 people have now recovered from the virus.

The majority of Sunday’s new cases come in the Southern Health region, with 21 coming from the area. The majority of those are linked to a previously known cluster, public health officials indicated.

Of the remaining 15 cases, nine were found in the Prairie Mountain Health region, five in Winnipeg and a single new case in the Interlake-Eastern Health region.

Of the nine found in Prairie Mountain, four of them come in children in the 0-9 age range, including two boys and two girls.

Testing numbers show an additional 1,669 laboratory tests were completed on Saturday, bringing the total number of tests completed since early February to 113,952.

The province reported 3,460 tests over the weekend.

Manitoba’s test positivity rate dropped slightly to 1.47%.

Nine people remain hospitalized due to the virus, including three in intensive care.

Manitoba’s death toll remains at nine. On Saturday, the province announced the latest death, a man in his 80s from the Southern Health region. It was the first time a death had been recorded since July 22.

The province continues to remind people that only those experiencing symptoms of COVID-19 should be seeking testing, and those who do have symptoms consistent with the virus should seek testing immediately.

Government also continues to tell employers to only send employees for testing if they have symptoms or if testing has been recommended by public health.
