There are no new COVID-19 cases in Nova Scotia, the Health Department reported Thursday.
The number of active cases remains at six, including a Universite Sainte-Anne student in Church Point, Digby County.
That student did not self-isolate but the university has said the risk of exposure on the campus is low because the case was caught early.
Public health has ramped up testing with the return of university students to the province. On Wednesday, Nova Scotia Health Authority’s labs completed 1,335 Nova Scotia tests.
To date, Nova Scotia has 77,685 negative test results, 1,085 positive COVID-19 cases, 1,014 resolved cases and 65 deaths.
In a news briefing Wednesday, chief medical of health Dr. Robert Strang said families should prepare for COVID-19 cases in schools. Classes will resume on Tuesday.
Students in the same class, bus or school programs in close contact with somebody infected with COVID-19 will have to self-isolate for 14 days.
Strang has said it’s inevitable that we’ll have COVID-19 cases in schools. But he said he’s confident the plans the province has put in place – such as immediate investigation of close contacts and testing, and preventative measures such as masking, intensive cleaning and hand-washing – will keep the risk of large outbreaks as low as possible.
