Six more Edmonton schools have COVID-19 outbreaks as the region hit a new record for active cases.

Alberta Health listed Parkview School and École Père-Lacombe on its online school outbreak list Tuesday.

Edmonton Catholic Schools reported three cases have been discovered at Bishop Savaryn and Archbishop O’Leary schools, and two cases at Austin O’Brien High School, within two weeks. All three schools now meet the Alberta Health Services definition of an outbreak: two or more cases confirmed within a 14-day period, where the individuals visited the school while infectious and multiple people have to self-isolate as a result.

Edmonton Public Schools confirmed an outbreak has been declared at Harry Ainlay School now with two cases, and noted the case is not linked to a previous one. The district also confirmed two cases at Riverbend School but said in an email AHS does not consider it an outbreak. It did not explain why that is the case.

On Tuesday, school officials also reported a single case each at Westminster School, J. H. Picard, Louis St. Laurent and H. E. Beriault.

Active cases in the Edmonton Zone reached a record 820 for the region on Tuesday, the highest in any region since May 20 when Calgary Zone reached 784 cases. April 28 saw the province’s record active cases with 1,985 in Calgary Zone.

There are 21 active cases in Strathcona County, six in Fort Saskatchewan, five in Leduc, and nine in Spruce Grove.

Alberta has reported 150 new cases of COVID-19 and two more people have died. To date there have been 16,889 cases and 258 deaths in Alberta.
