There was a drop in the number of new COVID-19 cases logged in London and Middlesex County on Tuesday.

The Middlesex London Health Unit said just two more people tested positive for the virus over the last 24 hours. That is a big decrease over the 14 infections recorded on Monday.

The total number of cases reported in the area since the start of the pandemic is now 1,110.

Another local long-term care/retirement home is dealing with an outbreak of the virus. Chartwell Royalcliffe Retirement Residence has been added to the list of eight facilities that have declared outbreaks. Outbreaks remain at Chartwell London, Chelsey Park, Craigwiel Gardens, Extendicare, Oakcrossing Retirement Living, Strathmere Lodge, and Westmount Gardens. An outbreak at Henley Place LTC Residence has been declared over.

The number of COVID-19 related deaths in London and Middlesex was unchanged at 60, with no new deaths since Saturday.

Eight more cases have been resolved to bring the area’s recoveries to 990.

Active cases in the region have fallen to 60, the fewest in the city and county since October 6.

In Elgin and Oxford, the number of cases rose by two on Tuesday. Southwestern Public Health, the region’s health unit, said the two new infections bring the area case count up to 311. Two more people recovered from the virus to bump the number of resolved cases up to 290. Sixteen cases remain active.

Ontario reported 827 new COVID-19 cases on Tuesday. That is down slightly from 851 cases on Monday.

COVID-19 hotspots continue to be Toronto with 355 new infections, Peel Region with 169, York Region with 89, and Ottawa with 58.

The total number of cases in the province has risen above 72,000 to 72,051.

Four more people died from the virus over the past 24 hours to increase the death toll to 3,103.

The number of resolved cases rose to 61,530 with 691 recoveries reported.

There are currently 312 COVID-19 infected patients in hospitals across the province. Of those, 75 are in the intensive care unit and 52 are relying on ventilators to breathe.

In the last 24 hour period the number of COVID-19 tests being conducted dropped to less than 24,000.
