Ottawa’s Chief Medical Officer of Health is urging residents to check their COVID-19 “blind spots,” as the number of new cases popping up in the capital remains high.
Dr. Vera Etches says some of the blind spots are happening in settings where provincial and municipal regulations, such as gathering size restriction and mandatory mask rules, are not covered. Examples include gatherings with extended family or friend circles, socializing before or after a team sports, or taking a ride in a friend’s car without wearing a mask.
Meanwhile, Dr. Etches is also urging residents to continue to assess their risk level while going about their daily lives.
“Is this activity safe? Could I be exposing myself, my family, my co-workers, my friends, my schoolmates to COVID-19 if I share a meal with people outside of my household,” Etches suggests residents ask themselves.
In the meantime, she adds that, regardless of the setting, it’s the actions of individuals which are contributing to the spread of COVID-19 in the capital.
