The province reported the largest single-day increase in the number of cases of COVID-19 Sunday, with 159 cases being reported. There were also 21 recoveries reported. It was also announced a person in their 80’s from the Saskatoon zone passed away due to COVID-19. There have now been 28 deaths across the province as a result of the virus.
Of the new cases reported Sunday, 48 were in the Saskatoon zone, and 23 in the Regina zone. There were 18 reported cases in the North Central zone, and 16 in the North East. Fourteen new cases were reported in the North West, 11 in Central East, 7 in Far North West, five in the South West and South East zones, three in the Far North Central and South Central zones, two in the Far North East zone and one in the Central West zone. There are three cases that have pending residence information.
With the large increase in cases, the province has now jumped past the 1,000 active case mark, with 1,122 active cases province-wide.
The five new cases reported in the South East zone bring the total number of active cases for the region up to 35. Of the new cases, four were reported in the South East 1 subzone, and one in the South East 3 subzone. There are now 11 active cases in South East 1, two active cases in South East 2, four in South East 3 and 18 in South East 4.
The province is also recommending residents in Saskatchewan download the Health Canada COVID Alert application for smartphones. The app, which is free, provides digital alerts to let people know if they have been exposed to COVID-19. It doesn’t track the location of users or collect personal information. The app is available for Android and iOS devices.
