Just over one in 10 patients in intensive care in the province have COVID-19, Ontario Hospital Association president Anthony Dale says.
“Critical care overnight census reporting 203 patients in ICU with COVID-19 related conditions on a total census of 1,721,” Dale tweeted Thursday. “All regions except Northern Ontario reporting new cases. Approximately 11% of ICU patients in Ontario have COVID-19.”
Public health officials have stated that more than 150 COVID-19 patients in the ICU will begin to impact the ability of the hospital to meet other medical needs, while at 350 or higher it becomes impossible.
Provincial public health data reported 666 people in hospital with COVID-19 Thursday, 195 in intensive care and 107 on ventilators.
OHA and the public health’s numbers are different, but the public health numbers are slightly older.
Ontario confirmed 1,824 new cases of COVID-19 Thursday, although due to a “data processing error” the number includes three days’ worth of cases from London-Middlesex.
Another 14 deaths have been linked to the coronavirus and 3,712 have died — 2,343 were residents of long-term care. The province says 116 of its 626 long-term care homes are experiencing an outbreak.
Peel Region recorded another 592 cases of COVID-19, Toronto had 396, York Region had 187, Halton Region 68 and Durham 57.
Ontario conducted 52,873 tests since the last daily report.
