When will Bob Knight return to Assembly Hall?.
Assembly Hall roared as Indiana fans welcomed back the former Hoosiers coach for the first time since his dismissal in 2000. One of college basketball’s most successful coaches of all time, Knight was arm-in-arm with some former players as the 1980 Big Ten championship team was honored.
Knight moved back to the Bloomington area last spring, and there was indication his icy relationship with the school was starting to thaw. On Saturday, those walls were officially knocked down.

As Indiana’s coach, Knight led the Hoosiers to 24 NCAA Tournament appearances, five Final Fours and won three national championships, including the last undefeated season in 1975-76. He won 662 games at Indiana.
Knight was a successful, but polarizing coach for the Hoosiers. He was fired in the fall of 2000 after grabbing the arm of an Indiana student, the final straw of what had been reports of physical and verbal abuse of players and administrators.
After being fired, the 78-year-old Knight has refused multiple invitations to return to campus, including a time when the 1976 national championship team was honored. He did attend a baseball game on campus last spring.
After leaving Indiana, Knight coached at Texas Tech for seven seasons.
