Cesar and Monica Calle marked their 23rd wedding anniversary by undergoing a kidney transplant.
Years of battling polycystic kidney disease came to an end for a wife whose husband decided to give her the gift of a lifetime – a kidney transplant.
For their 23rd wedding anniversary, Cesar Calle showed his love for his wife, Monica Calle in an unimaginable way. After finding out in December that he was a match to be an eligible donor they proceeded to schedule a kidney transplant. “I guess after 23 years, we’re still a match!” the couple said.
Dr. Juan Areanas, who led the medical team who did Monica’s surgery, said it’s ‘very unusual’ to find a husband and wife match.
According to the Sun Sentinel, said the wife inherited the genetic disease from her mother and for the past three years she has had to spend more than eight hours a day hooked to a dialysis machine.
According to Unos.org, every ten minutes, someone is added to the national transplant waiting list. On average, 20 people die each day while waiting for a transplant.
