Coronavirus Canada Updates: Alberta Man Accused of Not Following COVID-19 Rules to Self-Isolate

An Alberta man has been charged with failing to follow COVID-19 safety protocols in Newfoundland and Labrador.

The resident of Fort McMurray arrived in the province two days ago and was arrested in Corner Brook early Sunday morning.

Shortly before 4 a.m., RNC stopped a vehicle on Regent Square. The driver ran from the scene but was quickly apprehended by police.

The 24-year-old man was initially charged with impaired driving and refusing the breathalyser, as well as obstructing a peace officer.

Upon further investigation, he was also charged under the Provincial Special Measures Orders for failing to self-isolate. It’s not clear if the man has been tested for COVID-19.

The man remains in custody and was due to appear in provincial court today.
