Montreal’s public health department has announced a 19-year-old man has died after contracting COVID-19.
It marks the first victim among patients 19 and under in the province. According to federal statistics, it’s also the second fatality among those 19 and under in Canada. The first was reported in Ontario in late-June.
Details such as their identify, or if the individual had any other underlying conditions, has yet to be made known to the public at this time.
Young people have not been as severely impacted by the virus compared to other age demographics. As of the most current federal data, people 19 and younger make up 8.4 per cent of the nation’s total cases, and 1.2 per cent of all hospitalizations.
