Coronavirus Canada Updates: Ottawa sees fewer than 100 new cases of COVID-19 in one-day dip

Public Health Ontario has confirmed another 425 new cases of COVID-19 today, nearly half of which were reported by the Toronto Public Health.

The province has also reported two deaths, including one person over 80 and one person between 60 and 79 years old.

According to a breakdown of today’s cases by Public Health Ontario, Toronto Public Health reported 175 new cases for today’s epidemiological summary. Peel Public Health reported 84 new cases and Ottawa reported 60 new cases. Together, those three health units reported 319 cases, which is 75 per cent of the new cases confirmed today.

Today, 285 of the new cases are individuals under 40 years old. Most of the cases reported each day are close contacts or outbreak related, but the province is also reporting nearly the same number of community-aquired cases where there is no known epidemiological link.

According to the data released by the province on school-related cases, there have been 18 new school cases identified since Friday. Eight were student cases and four were staff cases, the rest are not identified. There are now 90 school-related cases spread across 75 schools.

Public Health Ontario has now confirmed 47,274 cases of COVID-19 in the province since January, and has reported 41,146 of those cases recovered and 2,829 cases ending in death.

There are now 3,299 active, lab-confirmed cases of COVID-19 in Ontario, with at least 65 people hospitalized with the coronavirus. There are 22 COVID patients in intensive care and 12 patients on ventilators.

The province has reported 31,753 COVID tests have been processed since yesterday’s report.
