Public Health Ontario has reported 3,422 new cases of COVID-19 today, which is 366 more than the previous day. (Jan. 16).
The province is also reporting 69 deaths over the past 24 hours. Included in the 69 deaths were 11 individuals living in long-term care homes.
The Jan. 17 update provided by the province’s public health agency also reported the following data:
3,078 new recoveries
1,570 people are currently hospitalized with COVID-19 in Ontario, down from 1,632 reported yesterday.
Public Health Ontario notes more than 10% of hospitals did not submit data to the Daily Bed Census. As a result, the number of hospitalized patients may increase when reporting compliance increases.
There are 395 COVID patients in intensive care units (down from 397 yesterday) and 293 COVID patients on ventilators (12 more than yesterday).
The province reported 60,200 tests were processed yesterday (there were almost 74,000 the previous day).
There is a backlog of 30,103 tests. To date, 8,925,446 tests have been completed.
Of the 3,422 cases reported today, 1,035 are from Toronto, 585 are from Peel, 246 are from York Region, 254 are from Windsor-Essex County and 186 are from Niagara Region.
There are 252 ongoing, active outbreaks at long-term care homes, 171 outbreaks at retirement homes and 89 outbreaks at hospitals in the province.
There were 11,007 doses of vaccines against COVID-19 administered on Jan. 16, down from 14,460 on Jan. 15.
As of 8 p.m. on Jan. 16, the province reports 200,097 doses of vaccine against COVID-19 have been administered.
There are 21,714 total vaccinations completed (both doses). The vaccines approved for use require two doses a few weeks apart.
Public Health Ontario has confirmed 237,786 cases of COVID-19 since the start of the pandemic, and reported 203,484 recoveries and 5,409 deaths, of which 3,198 were individuals living in long-term care homes. There were five new outbreaks reported at long-term care homes in Ontario over the past 24 hours.
The cumulative average incidence rate in the province is 1,556.1 cases per 100,000 people in Ontario. The weekly incidence rate in Ontario is 162.2 cases per 100,000 people from Jan. 5 to Jan. 11, which is an increase of 9.2 per cent compared to Dec. 30 to Jan. 5 when the average weekly incidence rate was 148.5 cases per 100,000 people.
