For the first time since New Year’s Day, Quebec health officials are reporting less than 2,000 new COVID-19 cases.
According to the Ministère de la Santé et des Services sociaux, 1,869 cases have been added to Quebec’s virus total over the last day, along with 51 additional deaths. This is only the second time in 2021 that Quebec has reported less than 2,000 cases. On January 1, 1,986 new cases were announced.
Among the 51 newly-added deaths, 18 have occurred over the past day, 29 between January 4 and January 9, one from earlier in January, and three from an “unknown date.”
The number of hospitalizations has increased by 56 since Sunday for a cumulative total of 1,436. Among these, the number of people in intensive care has increased by eight for a total of 211 across Quebec.
Since yesterday morning, 8,400 doses of the Pfizer vaccine have been administered across the province for a total of 92,452. To date, 115,375 doses have been received. The rest are in transit through the health and social services network.
Total coronavirus cases in the province have now reached 230,690, along with 8,737 deaths.
Public health also reports 2,384,246 negative cases, with 197,938 being deemed “recoveries.”
The new data was reported by hospitals and public health officials on Sunday, January 10, at 6 pm.
