The number of COVID-19 cases in Quebec is nearing a grim new milestone as total cases are nearing a quarter million.
The Ministère de la Santé et des Services sociaux has added 1,502 cases, increasing the provincial total to 247,236 since the pandemic began last March.
Health officials have also added 66 new deaths to the total. Of the newly-added deaths, 10 have occurred over the past day, 42 have occurred between January 13 and 18, and 11 from earlier in January from an “unknown date.”
The number of hospitalizations has also decreased by 33 since Tuesday, for a cumulative total of 1,467 across the province. Intensive care numbers increased by four, for a total of 216.
In total, Quebec has 9,208 virus-related deaths.
Public health also reports 2,442,878 negative cases, with 219,592 being deemed “recoveries.”
The new data was reported by hospitals and public health officials on Tuesday, January 19, at 6 pm.
Last week, Quebec Premier François Legault said the virus was “spreading too fast” and is “out of control” in the province.
Santé Quebec advises residents to “frequently wash” their hands (for 20 seconds with soap and water), use alcohol-based disinfectant, respect the measures regarding private gatherings, and limit travel as much as possible.
