Montreal Mayor Valérie Plante and Chantal Rouleau, the Quebec minister responsible for the metropolis, are to announce Wednesday at 1:30 p.m. that 2,000 COVID-19 vaccine doses will be administered to the homeless in the city, the Montreal Gazette has learned.
The announcement is to come after appeals by the Old Brewery Mission, Welcome Hall Mission and the Maison du Père to inoculate the homeless amid a spike in COVID-19 cases in this vulnerable population.
“It’s a start, but it’s not complete,” a highly placed source said, noting that the staff who care for the homeless need to be vaccinated and second doses will have to be administered.
