The Saskatchewan Health Authority has declared a COVID-19 outbreak at the City Yards in Saskatoon.

In a news release, the city said the outbreak is affecting workers in the Waste Stream Collection unit located at 26th Street and Ontario Avenue.

The site is only accessible to employees, and the city is not anticipating an impact to garbage collection service.

The city is not revealing how many workers have tested positive, however an outbreak is declared by the SHA when two or more people test positive and are all linked to a specific non-household setting or event within a specified time period.

“It is our understanding that SHA officials have followed up and contacted individuals according to its contact tracing process and has provided information to them on the next health steps to take,” the release said. “The City will support the SHA in its contact tracing process as necessary.”

The city said enhanced cleaning and disinfecting has occurred in the impacted areas since the positive cases were identified.
