Coronavirus: Quebec reports 28 more COVID-19 deaths

Quebec reported 28 more deaths attributed to the novel coronavirus on Thursday and a 42-patient rise in COVID-19 hospitalizations.

The Health Department said there were 1,582 people in hospital with the disease after 221 patients were admitted in the past 24 hours and 179 were discharged. There were 64 patients listed in intensive care, a drop of two.

Health officials reported 3,777 new COVID-19 cases based on PCR testing, with 19.3 per cent of tests conducted coming back positive.

The province administered 31,225 COVID-19 vaccines on Wednesday, the same day people aged 70 and older became eligible to receive a fourth dose.

Quebec has reported 14,482 deaths linked to COVID-19 since the beginning of the pandemic.

Interim public health director Dr. Luc Boileau is scheduled to hold a COVID-19 pandemic update on Friday morning.
