Foo Fighters man Dave Grohl has written a new song as an ode to 10-year-old viral drumming sensation Nandi Bushell as the series of drumming challenges continues between the pair.
The light-hearted competition between the two began after Bushell made a name for herself by delivering some of the most impassioned drum covers we’ve heard in a long time and, stepping up her game, shared a barnstorming version of Foo Fighters’ ‘Everlong’ which provoked Grohl’s interest.
In response, Grohl then challenged Bushell to cover Them Crooked Vultures song ‘Dead End Friends’, a track he composed alongside Josh Homme and John Paul Jones. Dressed just like Dave Grohl, Bushell delivered a stunning rendition of the song—but now it seems that wasn’t be the final blow in the fight.
Foo Fighters shared the performance on their Instagram account with the caption reading: “Ok, Nandi… you win round one… but it ain’t over yet!”. It’s safe to say Grohl was impressed with Bushell’s response and he accepted defeat in the first round. Though he then issued the following warning, “Buckle up, cuz I have something special in mind…”
Now, the Foo’s man added some assistance in the shape of his daughters and issued a new challenge. Instead of asking Bushell to replay a famous song, Grohl pens a new track “off the top of [his] head” for the young musician to tackle.
“Ok, Nandi Bushell….Round 2! Every superhero needs a theme song. Here’s one for you!” Grohl tweeted, before thanking his daughters for their vocals. “Mad props to The Grohlettes for the background vocals.”
In the video, Grohl plays drums, bass, guitar and sings lead vocals, while his daughters, Violet, Ophelia and Harper, sing along to a song that hears him call Bushell the “Queen of Rock and Roll.”
