Funeral services were held Thursday night for a 5-year-old boy who was shot and killed in North Carolina.
Cannon Hinnant was fatally shot in the head around 5:30 p.m. Monday in the city of Wilson.
Police say a neighbor, Darius Sessoms, 25, was identified as a suspect and was arrested about 30 minutes south of Wilson the same day.
Family members say Cannon was riding his bike when he was shot in front of his two sisters.
Sessoms is currently being held without bond. As of Friday morning, the motive for the shooting remains unclear.
According to our CBS affiliate, WNCN in Raleigh, the community is devastated. They spoke with Cannon’s great grandfather at the funeral.
“Just a kid trying to have fun in his own yard and something like this happens. It’s despicable,” Merrill Race said. “This guy took something away from us that should have never happened.”
A community vigil planned for Friday night was postponed upon the family’s request.
