A woman in her 20s has been arrested after the body of a baby was found behind an apartment building on Mont-Bleu Boulevard in Hull, Gatineau police said Tuesday.
Police did not reveal the woman’s relationship to the baby but said the death happened within a family.
A resident made the “macabre discovery” at about 5 p.m. Monday, police said, adding the death was obvious to officers who were first on the scene and there was no way to save the baby’s life.
The resident was taken to the police station to give a statement and be offered psychological support, police said. Several other witnesses were interviewed overnight.
Help was also given to officers who were on the call, police said.
Police set up a perimeter at 13 Mont-Bleu Blvd. and the parking lots at 84 and 88 Richard St. as forensic officers examined the scene.
An autopsy will be performed to determine the cause of the baby’s death.
