Laval: One dead, two critically injured after motorcycle slams into construction site

One person is dead and two others in critical condition after a motorcycle drove into a construction site on Highway 440 in Laval Wednesday night.

The Sûreté du Québec said the incident occurred around 9 p.m., when a motorcycle carrying two persons, both 28, entered a construction zone in the left lane of the highway just as workers at the site were in the process of closing it down.

The motorcyclist swerved to avoid a parked truck and returned to the left-hand lane, where he struck a 34-year-old construction worker. The motorcycle then slammed into a pickup truck, the impact throwing the motorcyclist and passenger from the vehicle.

The motorcyclist, a resident of l’Épiphanie, died of his injuries while the passenger and construction worker remained in critical condition Thursday morning.

Police suspect excessive speed was the cause of the incident.
