Maroc Telecom (IAM) and Inwi (Wana Corporate) have announced a groundbreaking partnership to accelerate Morocco’s digital transformation. This strategic agreement will drive the expansion of fiber optics and 5G networks across the country, setting the stage for a new era of ultra-high-speed connectivity.
A Joint Effort for a Digital Morocco
The partnership, approved by Maroc Telecom’s Supervisory Board and Inwi’s Board of Directors, marks a significant milestone in the Kingdom’s technological advancement. The two telecom giants will consolidate their passive telecommunications infrastructures by establishing two joint ventures, each owned equally by IAM and Inwi:
-
FiberCo: Focused on deploying fiber optic networks to provide ultra-high-speed internet access, aiming for 1 million connections within two years and 3 million within five years.
-
TowerCo: Dedicated to accelerating 5G deployment by constructing and upgrading mobile towers, targeting 2,000 new towers in three years and 6,000 in ten years.
An initial investment of 4.4 billion MAD over the next three years will fuel this ambitious initiative.
Regulatory Approval and a Historic Dispute Resolution
The agreement is subject to approval by the National Telecommunications Regulatory Agency (ANRT) under Morocco’s antitrust regulations. In a remarkable step towards industry cooperation, IAM and Inwi have also resolved their long-standing legal dispute over infrastructure sharing. Maroc Telecom will now pay 4.38 billion MAD in compensation to Inwi, down from the original 6.38 billion MAD ruling, with both parties agreeing to drop legal appeals.
A Vision for the Future
This collaboration reaffirms Maroc Telecom and Inwi’s commitment to enhancing Morocco’s digital infrastructure and supporting national strategic projects. By expanding access to high-speed internet and 5G, the partnership aims to position Morocco as a leader in regional and international telecommunications.
The initiative is expected to benefit both individuals and businesses, fostering innovation, economic growth, and technological development. Maroc Telecom and Inwi also extended their gratitude to national authorities and stakeholders for their support in making this vision a reality.
This partnership represents a defining moment in Morocco’s digital transformation, promising a future of seamless connectivity and boundless opportunities.
