The investigation into an overnight shooting in Surrey has turned into a homicide investigation after the victim died in hospital.

The 37-year-old man was shot on the 16600 block of 19 Avenue in Surrey at about 11 p.m. Saturday night. The man was taken to hospital with what police described as “serious injuries,” but he has since succumbed to those injuries.

Surrey RCMP says it appears the shooting stemmed from an altercation between two parties who were known to each other.

“Several people were detained by police following the incident, and police are working to determine who may have been involved in the shooting,” the Surrey RCMP said in a press release.

“Police are conducting neighbourhood canvassing and speaking with witnesses to obtain further information. Investigators are appealing to anyone who may have dash camera footage from the area around the time of the shooting to contact police.”

Police have asked anyone with information about the shooting to call the IHIT information line at 1-877-551-4448 or by email at [email protected].
