A 16-year-old pedestrian who was struck in a marked crosswalk in Saanich Monday night has died from his injuries.
At approximately 9:45 p.m. on December 6th, the pedestrian was rushed to the Victoria General Hospital with critical, life-threatening injuries after being struck by an oncoming car.
Family identified the teen as Kaydence Bourque, a grade 11 student who attended Reynolds Secondary. He was crossing the street in a marked crosswalk at the intersection of Cedar Hill Cross Road and Merriman Drive when he was hit struck by a car.
“We are very sad to report that the youth pedestrian has succumbed to their injuries” Saanich Police said in a media release.
“Our heartfelt condolences go out to the family, friends and anyone that has been affected by this very tragic incident.”
According to a Facebook statement from his mom, Crystal Bourque said her son had just got off the bus when he was struck less than 100 feet from their home.
She said her son never regained consciousness and was pronounced dead at 4:20 p.m. Tuesday.
“His body is being kept alive until Thursday morning at 5:30 a.m. when his organs will be used to save up to 8 people,” Crystal said.
“I have never felt this much pain in all my life. I have not slept in over 40 hours now and won’t leave his side until the very end. I don’t know if I will ever recover from this.”
Saanich Police said the driver of the vehicle has been fully cooperating with the investigation.
