The Halton Police Homicide Unit is investigating following the apparent drowning death of a three-year-old boy in Oakville on Saturday, May 27.
At around 7 p.m., officers were called to a residence on Warwick Avenue after a young boy was found and pulled from an inground backyard pool.
Halton Police Media Relations Officer Const. Ryan Anderson said the boy was without vital signs and lifesaving measures were immediately attempted by adults at the scene.
Emergency services personnel continued these measures when they arrived.
“First responders conducted CPR and the child was transported to hospital, however, he did not survive,” Anderson said.
Anderson noted the boy does not reside at the residence, but was attending a birthday party.
Several adults and children were reportedly at this gathering and police said the child went underwater, apparently undetected for an undetermined period of time.
The Halton Police Homicide Unit and the Ontario Coroner’s Office are investigating this incident.
The homicide unit investigates all deaths involving children under five.
No charges have been laid, and police say they have determined there to be no criminality in this case.
