A 19-year-old North York man is facing charges after driving more than double the speed limit on Highway 401 and then flipping the car in Cambridge.
OPP reported on Twitter the car was clocked at travelling 221 km/h on the highway after the man purchased the car and picked it up to drive it for the first time.
The driver exited the 401 at the Hespeler Road ramp and crashed, flipping the car on its side.
The driver and a 16-year-old occupant fled the scene on foot but were arrested not far from the car.
The man is facing charges of dangerous driving, cannabis readily available, failing to remain at the scene, no insurance, and unauthorized plates and stunt driving, which brings a seven-day licence and suspension and seven-day vehicle impound.
