Tragedy Strikes: Body of missing Shawnigan Lake senior found

RCMP confirm that a Shawnigan Lake woman reported missing Tuesday has been found dead.

No criminality is involved in what RCMP are calling the “unexpected” death of Janet Klassen, 81.

Klassen was last seen at around 3 p.m. Tuesday in the area of White Eagle Drive in the Cowichan Valley community.

A massive search effort was launched involving RCMP and search and rescue teams as well as residents concerned for Klassen. Searchers feared she may have become confused or lost around her neighbourhood.

On Wednesday night at around 8 p.m., RCMP confirmed her body was discovered some time Wednesday, bringing the search to a tragic conclusion.

The BC Coroner’s Service has assumed conduct of the investigation and police say no further information will be provided at this time.
